Is Korg better than Yamaha? Choosing between two popular brands can be somehow difficult, especially if you’re not a fan of either of them. In this case, we’re talking about two of the famous musical instrument manufacturers and distributors in the world. Both Korg and Yamaha have earned their spots among the top musical instrument producers by delivering some of the best and high-quality products over the years.
Therefore, it’s not easy to say exactly which company has managed to outdo the other, and which one hasn’t. A lot of people and musicians alike tend to believe that no company can beat Yamaha. In as much as I would like to agree with this notion, I’m forced not to because Korg also has some of the best instruments in the market.
In fact, some Korg digital pianos are even better than similar models produced by Yamaha. But, does that now make Korg better than Yamaha? Absolutely not.
One thing to note, however, is that Yamaha has a wide range of instruments designed for all types of players – from beginners to the most advanced musician. They also manufacture plenty of products compared to their competitors, Korg included. Let’s look at some of their differences below.
The Differences Between Korg and Yamaha
One notable difference is that Korg only manufactures musical instruments, while Yamaha manufactures a wide range of products, aside from musical instruments. This is what has made Yamaha become so famous and make people assume that Yamaha is always on top.
Another difference is that Yamaha was founded way earlier than Korg. Yamaha was founded in 1887, while Korg was founded in 1962. That means Yamaha brings over 100 years of craftsmanship experience to their creations, unlike which only brings less than a century’s experience.
But, that doesn’t mean you should underestimate Korg’s capabilities of producing high-quality pianos. In my years of playing the piano, I’ve found that Korg also has some of the best digital pianos in the industry – both in terms of reliability and sound quality.
Similarities
Both of these companies manufacture and distribute some of the best digital pianos in the industry. Take for instance some of the latest digital pianos like the Korg C1 Air and the Yamaha PSR-S970. There are also other excellent digital pianos produced by these two companies that have managed to stand out from other brands.
Yamaha owns a part of Korg. That’s right, most people don’t know this but in 1987 Yamaha acquired a controlling interest in Korg. Ever since then, Korg was able to diversify into digital effects, recording equipment, software instruments, tuners, and electronic hand percussion.
Which One Should You Choose?
Is Korg better than Yamaha and which one should I choose? The answer solely depends on your preferences and needs. First of all, you have to know the type of digital piano that you want before putting yourself in the dilemma of trying to choose one from any of these two companies.
As mentioned earlier, both Korg and Yamaha strive to deliver some of the best musical instruments in the industry. Therefore, you can never go wrong choosing a product manufactured by any of them, provided it meets all your needs.
Final Thoughts
In conclusion, I wouldn’t say any of these two companies is better than the other. And as a pianist, it’s not recommended to just fully believe that one brand is better than the other. That’s because you’d be limiting yourself. After all, there are plenty of high-quality pianos out there from less popular brands.
You may even find that these pianos are affordable and can serve you better than the ones from popular brands. Therefore, the main point is to choose wisely when buying a digital piano.
